Uber driver demands R1700 to return passenger's cellphone.

What has SA Uber become?

What has Uber really become?
I mean uber taxis are respectable and known for being so responsible in taking care of their passengers.

The news that broke on Twitter day ago shook people, when a young man said he left his phone on the Uber Taxi that the driver couldn't want to bring back.

It's saddening to realise that someone got such a bad service from a respactable company, that could even tarnish the good image of it.
Being forced to pay for your own property is an offence, a whole breach of law.
Ownership includes the entitlement of exclusive possession of res . The rei vindicatio , or vindicatory action, is a remedy available to the owner to reclaim his property from wherever it is found and from whosoever is unlawfully holding it. The remedy entitles him to "exclusive possession", which means the driver could be jail for all the wrongs he has done.

This bad expirience torned Tshifhango Shumani. Tshifhango said he forgot his phone on Uber Taxi with the licence plate "CH 57 BD GP" and called the driver 15mins later to notify him and that's when the driver demanded the R1.7k in return for his cellphone, he went on saying the driver refused to return his cellphone because he didn't have the cash, he even went to the police station to report the case and they told him, he couldn't be helped cause the phone was just lost. Can you imagine.

Lost my phone in an uber and driver demanding R1700 @Uber_RSA . The guy even took the pic of the phone and drove past in the morning ,didn't give me the phone coz I did not have cash

I went 2 @SAPoliceService  morning side and they said it's not a case, phone is lost.
The driver even took the picture of Tshifhango's mobile phone to make sure that he sees it.

Luckily Tshifhango had the licence plate of the Uber vehicle that took him.

Here's their conversation,

It doesn't just end there the Uber driver went on threatening poor Tshifhango
This has really portrayed a bad image of the Uber Company. I've just lost respect for it but at least Uber tried to solve the problem as they asked to talk to him in private.
I hope justice will be served.
